Stories From the Trenches
I want to tell you one of my all-time favorite “you can’t make this up” stories from the early days of Elite.
We were doing a lien search on a property in a tiny town in Michigan. And when I say tiny, I mean blink-and-you-miss-it tiny.
We did what we always do: followed their instructions and faxed over the request. And then… nothing.
A week went by. No response.
So we started calling. And calling. And calling.
Eventually, someone finally answered — and that’s when things took a turn. They told us they weren’t sure how to help because they… didn’t have their property records anymore.

What’s your favorite part of your job? The moment when something that has been eluding me finally clicks.
How would you describe what you do to a 5-year-old? I think I would describe myself as a treasure hunter and the treasures I am looking for are property facts that I then try to fit neatly into a chest.
What’s a work accomplishment you’re really proud of? This one is recurring. Every so often, I get a particularly difficult report to put together and I am always happy when the client has no complaints or questions because I took the time to anticipate and explain everything in the report.
What’s your go-to productivity hack? CHECKLISTS! The satisfaction of crossing things off is 10/10.
What’s your guilty pleasure TV show or movie? I am a sucker for those over-the-top Lifetime movies. The more dramatic, the better!
