Joanne Went on Vacation

I want to introduce you to Joanne. Joanne works for a very small municipality.
And when I say small… I mean Joanne is the municipality.
She’s the one who knows how to look up permits.
She’s the one who understands the records.
She’s the one who can actually answer your questions.
And based on this setup… Joanne’s job security is absolutely unmatched. 😅
So naturally, we had a file there.
Everything was moving along as expected. Request sent. Follow-ups in place. Just waiting on results.
Then we called for an update.
“Oh… Joanne’s on vacation.”
No problem. Totally fair. Everyone deserves a vacation.
“So who can help while she’s out?”
Silence.
“Well… no one really knows how to do what Joanne does.”
And just like that… the entire process came to a complete stop.
No backup.
No access.
No workaround.
Just… Joanne. On vacation.
So we did what we always do.
We followed up. We checked in. We tried different contacts. We circled back (politely, of course). And we waited.
Because sometimes, in this industry, progress depends on one person… and whether or not they’re at their desk.
That’s the kind of reality happening behind the scenes more often than people realize.
You shouldn’t have to:
• Wonder who actually has access to the information
• Sit and wait because one person is unavailable
• Chase updates with no clear answers
• Or explain delays that make no logical sense
That’s our job. And we LOVE it!
